City Council Rejects Deal from FVSD

In case any of you missed this article in today's Orange County Register, here's a link:

City Council Rejects Deal [OCRegister.com]

The gist of the article is that the City Council has decided that while it appreciates the gracious offer of 5.2 acres in exchange for expedited residential zoning for the balance of the Wardlow and Lamb school sites, the council feels that 5.2 acres is not sufficient to allow the field to continue in it's current configuration. The core issue appears to be that while there might be enough acreage left to support the baseballs (or at least a large portion), there won't be anywhere for people to park.

Considering there's already an established parking lot that is in constant and heavy use when Baseball and Soccer are in play, I can easily see why Huntington Beach's argument holds water. What remains to be seen is how the Fountain Valley School District will respond on Thursday 8-18-2005. This is at least the second step in what could be considered a normal negotiation process.

As I said in the newspaper article, it's a huge, huge, huge accomplishment for Save Our Field.org!! I truly hope that we can get an approval from the Fountain Valley board of trustees to say "Okay, let's make this happen"!

Andrew and I attended the City Council meeting on Monday night and have recorded some audio for a pending podcast. However, since the council meeting ran until quite late in the evening, we haven't had a chance to wrap things up. Please expect a podcast to appear tomorrow night that will likely include news of the School Board meeting that I will attend.

You are all encouraged to join me Thursday night at the Fountain Valley School Board meeting. Hope to see you there! :)
